I am using the ISBE Scope and Sequence for planning my lessons.
Unit 1 – Real Numbers & Exponents
Standards: 8.NS.1, 8.NS.2, 8.EE.1, 8.EE.2, 8.EE.3, 8.EE.4
This was my first attempt at anything aligned to Common Core. For my first unit, not too bad.
Unit 2 – Expressions/Equations
Next year I am going to try and incorporate more tasks into the lesson. I would also like to have a performance task on each assessment.
Unit 3 – Congruence/Similarity
Standards: 8.G.2, 8.G.4, 8.G.5, 8.G.1, 8.G.3
I am not happy with this unit. I think there are a lot of things I could do better, but it is an ok start.
Unit 4 – Functions
Standards: 8.EE.6, 8.F.1, 8.F.2, 8.F.3, 8.F.4, 8.F.5
This is my best unit yet. I was happy with the lessons and the assessments.
Unit 5 – Linear Relationships
Standards: 8.EE.5, 8.EE.8
I felt ok about this unit. Not great, not terrible, just ok. I’m not really sure what I would do differently with this unit, but I’ll think about it over the Summer.
Unit 6 – Pythagorean Theorem
Standards: 8.G.6, 8.G.7, 8.G.8
Again, felt just ok about this unit. I had an extra three days with this unit, so I did a few days of Trig. Students did well with the trig and said they enjoyed it.
